Chapter 72

"I miss you, Mommy," my sweet daughter murmured as she lay down by my side. She had been sitting like that

for a while. When Harper tried to take her, she refused. She wasn't causingany discomfort anyway. She was

small againstand wasn't

hurting my wounds.

"I miss you too, cupcake." | kissed her head. Originally, | didn't want Julian to bring her because | worried that

she might get scared of seeingin the hospital bed with needles in my arm and bandages around my body.

However, when Julian called and toldhow she w she might not seeagain, thinking that | went to the

splace | told her her father was at for four years, my heart cracked. | couldn't do that to her again.

"You're coming back home, right?" she asked, staring up atwith her beautiful big blue eyes. | hated the fear

and uncertainty | saw in them.

"I promise I'm coming back," | assured her, rubbing her arm. "Have | ever broken a promise | made to you?" She

slowly shook her head. "Just give Mommy a couple of days to get better. | will be back hbefore you know it."

A small smile appeared on her lips as she noc "Honey, it's tto go." Harper told Rosie.

"Can | just stay for five more minutes?" she requested.

"Yes, cupcake," Julian answered on behalf of his sister. We could all notice how anxious she was, which was out of

character when it cto her, so if five more minutes were going to help her calm down, we didn't mind

granting her that.

"I love you, Mommy," she whispered, pushing herself up to kiss my check.

"And | adore you," | said, wrapping one arm around her. She stayed in my embrace for a little while and

thankfully, she left with Harper without crying.

| watched as Julian went to speak to one of the guards outside my room and when he cback, he took a seat

besideand reached for my hand.

"Are you feeling alright?" he asked me, and | nodded.

"Julian, the couch doesn't look comfortable at all. Maybe you should go home. I'll be fine on my own," | said, but

he shook his head.

"Not leaving you. You're stuck with me." He stuck his tongue out at me, makinglaugh a little.

"Don't complain then if you wake up with back pain." | shrugged.

We stayed awake for a while and the guard he had spoken to brought us food. After eating, we ended up falling

asleep. To be honest, | was glad that he chose to stay as | didn't want to be alone. | wasn't as petrified as | was

when | first woke up, but that didn't mean that | w Two days later, it was tforto leave. To say that | was

glad would be an understatement.

"No paparazzi around, right?" | asked Julian who helpedput on one of his sweaters.

"No paparazzi. Don't worry." He kissed my forehead as he helpedto stand up. My leg was still hurting

because of the bullet wound. "On

a side note, you look absolutely stunning in my sweater. Maybe you should steal more of my clothes." | blushed a

little when he said that.

"| didn't even steal it. You're the one who brought it for me," | reminded him.

"Because my clothes look way better on you." He grinned.

A nurse brought us a wheelchair and Julian carefully helpedto sit down on it. As Julian pushedtowards

the car, the nurse accompanied us as a standard procedure.

The driver was already waiting for us in front of the hospital. Instead of helpingto walk towards the door,

Julian pickedupand putinside the car. As promised, nobody was around. He also made sure to have

bodyguards surrounding

us to make sure that nobody would invade our privacy.

Relief filledas the driver took us away from the hospital. Having Julian withmade my stay way easier

than it would have been if | had been

on my own.

When we got home, | insisted on using the crutches since | was going to be using them for the next two weeks.

Julian opened the front door and my daughter's excited voice welcomed me. She

excitedly ran towardsand for a moment, | feared that she might expectto carry her. Instead, she stopped

when she noticed that | was using crutches.

"Are you okay, Mommy!" she cautiously asked me. "You toldshe was doing well." She looked at her dad.

"I'm doing well, cupcake. Mommy has a wound here and another one here, but they're going to heal soon," | told

her, pointing to where my wounds were. | like to explain everything to her and keep her in the know. Yes, she

was a child, but even if it was hard to explain son that it was better to let them know the truth. As a parent, it

was my role to simplify things for her. Julian walked towards her and picked her up, bringing her closer to me. |

wrapped one arm around her and kissed her cheek.

"I miss you," | told her.

"I miss you too." | was in love with her bright smile.

The three of us headed towards the living room and | gasped when | saw everybody waiting for me.

"Welcback!" Maya squealed, walking towards me. She carefully wrapped her arms aroundand | did the

"It will take more than that to get rid of me," | laughed, not letting go of her.

"Are you sure you want to stay here, honey? We can take better care of you if you stay at our place," Rose

offered again.

"Mum, I'm going to take good care of her. Don't worry," Julian answered.

"But what about when you go to work?" she argued, makingsmile.

"I can move around, Rose. | promise, I'm okay. We've already hired a maid to help us around and she's starting

tomorrow," | assured her.

"And I'm going to work from huntil the next week," Julian added.

"Good. If you need any help, just letknow. Did you run a background check on the new maid?" Uncle Steven

asked Julian.

"Yes, she's all good," Julian replied.

| had learned over the years that the Kensingtons were very protective over each other. They were willing to do

anything for one another and | loved that about them. | was happy that my daughter was luckier than me. She

had a family anybody could wish for and | was gla After everybody left, Julian helpedto go upstairs and by

bed.

"I was going out of my mind while you were in the OR," Julian whispered as he played with my hair. "You're not

allowed to scarelike that ever again."

"I think we're even," | smiled as | stared into his eyes. "Didn't you scare the hell out ofwhen your plane

caught on fire?"

"Is that so? You got shot as a payback?" | laughed slightly as he raised his eyebrows at me.

"Not intentionally," | mumbled, kissing him.

"I love you, sunshine," he whispered, makingsmile.

"I love you more." | closed my eyes and ended up falling asleep in his arms, which had becmy favorite

position.
